Google AI Mode and AI Overviews in Turkey: what to do

Yes, Google AI Mode is available in Turkey. On 18 February 2026 Google Türkiye announced that AI Mode and AI Overviews (which Google Türkiye calls AI Bakışı) were starting to roll out in Turkey in stages. Google states no extra technical requirement for Turkish-language sites: a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet.
This article rests on Google's own announcement and documents. Copyright and other legal consequences are not its subject; it is not legal advice.
When did Google AI Mode launch in Turkey?
The announcement on Google Türkiye's blog is dated 18 February 2026 and signed by Mehmet Keteloğlu, Google Türkiye Country Director. From it (summary ours):
- Google Search in Turkey is being updated with AI Mode and AI Overviews, powered by the Gemini 3 model family.
- The features are rolling out gradually in the Google app for Android and iOS and on the search results page. Not everyone sees them on the same day.
- AI Mode is multimodal: you can ask with text, voice, or by taking a photo with the camera.
- AI Mode uses a technique called query fan-out, which breaks a question into subtopics and runs many searches on the web at once on your behalf.
- An AI Overview appears at the top of the results page when Google's systems decide generative AI will be useful for a query, with links to sources. Ads continue to appear in dedicated areas above and below the AI Overview panel.
Google's help pages for both AI Mode and AI Overviews also list Türkiye among supported countries and Turkish among supported languages (read on 22 October 2026).
Is it called AI Overviews or AI Bakışı?
The same thing. Google Türkiye's announcement and Turkish help page write "AI Bakışı (AI Overviews)". The Turkish title of this article says "AI Özetleri", a plain translation; the official Turkish name is AI Bakışı. AI Mode keeps the same name in both.
Google describes the difference like this: an AI Overview gives the gist of a topic at the top of the results; AI Mode is a separate, deeper experience that goes on with follow-up questions. Per Google's guide for site owners, AI Overviews are shown only when Google's systems decide they add something to classic Search, which is why they often do not trigger.
Is there an extra requirement for Turkish-language sites?
No. Google's "AI features and your website" guide (last updated 10 December 2025, before the Turkish launch and not specific to any country) says:
- To be shown as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode, a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet. "There are no additional technical requirements."
- No special optimization is required for AI Overviews and AI Mode. You do not need to create new machine-readable files, AI text files or markup, and no special schema.org structured data is required.
- Meeting every requirement does not guarantee crawling, indexing or serving.
We found no Google source telling Turkish-language sites to do something extra for AI Mode.
Is my site ready for AI Mode and AI Overviews? How do I check?
The best practices in Google's guide turn into a short checklist as written:
- Is it indexed? Check the page address with URL Inspection in Search Console; the page must be indexed and eligible to show in Google.
- Is it open to Googlebot? Google wants crawling allowed in robots.txt and by any CDN or hosting infrastructure. If a security layer cuts off AI bots, see Is Cloudflare blocking AI bots you allowed in robots.txt?.
- Is the important content available as text? Google asks for it. A 2-minute curl test shows whether your text is in the first HTML.
- Internal links: your content should be easy to find through internal links on your site.
- Does structured data match the visible text? Google lists this too.
- Are your Merchant Center and Business Profile details current? If you sell products or run a local business.
- Images and video: supporting text with good images and videos, where it makes sense, is on the list.
None of these items is specific to Turkey.
Do I need a separate file for AI (llms.txt)?
Google's guide says plainly that you do not need to create new machine-readable files, AI text files or markup to appear in AI features. That applies only to Google's AI Mode and AI Overviews; other AI products are a separate question and not this article's subject. More: What is llms.txt, what does it do, do you need it?.
Can I opt out of AI Mode and AI Overviews?
Partly. Google's guide lists the controls for limiting what is shown from your pages: nosnippet, data-nosnippet, max-snippet and noindex. These also cover AI features. They affect how your page looks in classic search too; noindex, for example, removes the page from search altogether. After adding a control you must wait for Google to recrawl; the guide says that can take anywhere from several days to several months.
The guide also points to the Google-Extended control for limiting AI training and grounding in some of Google's other systems. That is a separate topic.
How do I measure AI clicks from Turkey?
Search Console does not show AI Overviews and AI Mode separately. Per the guide, sites appearing in these features are included in overall search traffic and reported in the Performance report under the "Web" search type. Counting rules (Search Console help page):
- In AI Mode, clicking a link to an external page counts as a click.
- A follow-up question in AI Mode counts as a new query.
- In AI Overviews, clicking a link to an external page counts as a click, and all links in the overview get the same position.
In the Performance report you can isolate Turkey with the "Countries" dimension, but that gives Turkey's traffic, not the AI share. So Search Console has no answer to "how many clicks did I get from AI Mode in Turkey". That is a gap according to the pages we read; if Google adds a separate filter, we will update this article.
What do we not know?
- How much it is used in Turkey and what it does to clicks. Google gave no figure and we found none. In the announcement Google says its AI experiences keep sending billions of clicks to websites every day and that it believes the new experiences will create discovery opportunities. That is Google's own view, not an independent measurement, and not specific to Turkey.
- Who sees it, and when. The rollout is gradual; not seeing it in your own search does not mean the feature is absent in Turkey.
- How good AI Mode's answers are to Turkish questions. We have no measurement.
